Tucked away a just few suburbs above Melbourne’s CBD, Northcote is quickly becoming one of Melbourne’s more sophisticated foodie suburbs. New eateries are popping up every day on bustling High St, each more carefully curated & stunningly presented than the last, and Tinker is no exception. From the team behind South-side establishments Temperance Society, Penta and Legacy Camberwell, Tinker is a long-awaited North-side addition to the family.

Tinker achieves that special combination that few cafes do; beautiful food, both aesthetically and taste-wise, great coffee and perfect location. The menu, in particular, will appeal to basically any demographic, intolerance or preference. Gluten free, vegetarian & vegan friendly options are plentiful (as are those which cater to none of those requirements).

The branding & space itself was designed by Melbourne based graphic design studio Pop & Pac. The space is a crisp, clean arrangement of white brick, grey stone & the odd splash of greenery. It almost seems too minimal, until the vibrant, colour-laden dishes arrive, and suddenly the understated space makes sense.

Tinker's dishes have enormous attention to detail. Enjoy sourdough adorned with smashed peas, beetroot smear, black quinoa, feta & haloumi, or an an acai bowl with peanut butter, coconut infused yoghurt, fresh berries, bee pollen & chia. The lunch menu offers a stunning Miso Baked Salmon with edamame salad, or another favourite, the vegan Summer Detox salad with wild rice, kale, sweet corn, pepitas, broccoli, and ginger.

Decadent technicolour superfood smoothies are also on offer; try the peanut butter and raspberry (a healthy take on the ol’ PB&J), or the beetroot infused berry smoothie. Golden Grind turmeric latte’s are served with coconut milk, and for the coffee drinkers (aka Melbourne locals), the single origin changes daily, alongside batch brew.

Tinker offers an all day menu (excellent for those who enjoy their pancakes after midday), and is open 7 days a week, 7am-4pm weekdays & 8am-4pm weekends.
