Chances are, if you live in Melbourne/enjoy the Chapel St precinct; you’ve either walked past or dined at Journeyman Café. Formerly known as Dukes Coffee Roasters, the coffee-connoisseurs made the transition to Journeyman just a few years ago. The establishment is a Chapel St icon and a favourite among Windsor, Prahran and South Yarra locals. The theme is industrial elegance, with exposed brick and dark wooden furnishings throughout the large dining area.
Journeyman is the sort of place that is ALWAYS busy. Take warning. Even arriving pre-9am on a weekend morning won’t guarantee you a table. A line of young, South-East-siders in their freshest brunch gear (Nike, NorthFace, Lululemon- the usual) often snakes out the door. If a four-legged friend is your brunch date or if you’re up for people watching- request a table out the front.
The menu offers a really great selection for all sorts of diners. It is large, varied and has several healthy options (catering for gluten-intolerant and vegetarian diners). If you’re after some morning greens, the ‘Superfood Salad’ of quinoa, avocado, kale, current, cauliflower, broccoli, poached eggs, feta and herbs (gluten-free and vegetarian) will do the trick. Their ‘Smashed Avocado’ is served with poached eggs, medley tomatoes, coriander, lime, feta and srircha sauce on sourdough is a flavoursome take on the Melbourne staple. If you're vegan or have sweet tooth (or both), the ‘Coconut Chia Pudding’ with fresh fruit, mango puree and crispy coconut is a piece of art in a bowl. Both our tastebuds and Instagram account approve of this dish.
The drinks menu doesn’t hold back on variety either; choose between several cold-pressed juices, (our favourite is the Green Detox; green apple, celery, cucumber, kale, spinach & coconut water), Hepburn Organics soft drinks and organic tea’s. Journeyman is a coffee-lover’s paradise. Choose between Dukes espresso blend, single origin espresso, batch brewed filter and kono filter- and if you’re anything like us, top it off Almond Milk Co almond milk and you’ll be in heaven!
Journeyman cafe is open Monday-Friday 7am-4pm, and weekends 8am-4pm.
