Fourth Chapter

Cafe managing veteran Sarah Whitfield has opened a new chapter (literally) in her long career. Previously owning Muharam & Sardi, as well as recently opening Trei, her newest venture Fourth Chapter is possibly our favourite of the bunch. Teaming up with business partners Jessica Whitfield & Christian Rocchi, the results of the Prahran-based cafe are nothing short of amazing. Walk through the oversized white front door and you’ll be welcomed with a bright, airy jungle of hanging plants.  Splashes of yellow (thanks to the signature Niccolo coffee bags & matching coffee mugs) pop in the crisp space. Overlooking the lush Victoria Gardens.,the courtyard out back is hot property in summer.

Fourth Chapter's all day breakfast menu will satisfy both health-foodies and their not so healthy counterparts. Think gluten, dairy and refined sugar free Cacao Pops (a healthy take on the good ol’ Cocopop- cacao avocado mousse, coconut yoghurt, caramelised bananas and pear dust), next to Southern Fried Chicken Bao.  Works of art, these dishes offer diners some serious food-porn.

A menu like Fourth Chapter’s makes it a serious challenge to pick just a few favourite menu items. Savoury brunch eaters will love The Bowl- brown rice, golden hummus, pickled cabbage, roast pumpkin, avocado, cherry tomatoes, kale, spicy peanut sauce. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is just a bowl of veggies- it is both delicious and extremely filling (but don’t let that stop you from adding poached eggs or a side of Paleo toast!) Speaking of which, the Paleo Toast served with lemon & avocado is another winner, suitable for those seeking gluten free, dairy free or vegan breaky options. The Roast Pumpkin, served with kale, sesame, edamame, avocado, pepitas, miso & house mayo is another favourite option, which is gluten & dairy free and SO full of flavor.

For all of those sweet breakfast lovers, you absolutely cannot go past the Hotcakes, served with passionfruit crème, mango & lime coyo icecream & salted macadamias. Gluten & dairy free and vegan, this dish is both a visual masterpiece and one of the best hotcake dishes we’ve ever tasted (with the added benefit of health!). We couldn’t recommend this dish more. Side note: if anyone is feeling it, the lunch menu also offers the best sweet potato fries in Melbourne.

The beverage list is extensive, to say the least. It features Niccolo coffee, golden & matcha lattes, an array of teas, OJ & ruby grapefruit juice, kombucha, Sisco chocolate spheres and some pretty spectacular superfood smoothies. Try a Snickers (peanut butter, pea protein, almond milk, cacao & banana) or a Strawberry Shortcake (coconut mylk, almond crumble, strawberries, maca, chia, maple, whipped coconut cream). Dairy-alternative milk options (soy, almond or coconut) and extra-large sized coffees also feature.

Beautifully presented food, Chapel St adjacent location & a menu to please all dietary requirements- Fourth Chapter is quickly becoming a South-side institution.

Fourth Chapter is located at 385 High St, Prahran and is open 7am-4.30pm Monday-Friday, and 8am-4pm Saturday-Sunday.
